Thiruvananthapuram, February 2 :
The Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) has initiated official action after receiving complaints about the overpricing of drinking water during the India vs New Zealand 5th T20I held on January 31 in Thiruvananthapuram.
In a press release, the KCA said it takes the issue seriously after videos and social media posts surfaced showing spectators being charged more than the permitted rates at certain stalls inside the stadium.
KCA Cites Fixed Rates Set by BCCI
The association stated that extensive arrangements had been made to ensure a smooth experience for fans. As per the BCCI agreement with the beverage sponsor, prices were fixed at:
- ₹10 for 200 ml packaged drinking water
- ₹50 for 250 ml energy drinks or juices
The contracted agency was instructed to display rates clearly at all counters, maintain adequate stock according to crowd size, and follow the Green Protocol for environmentally friendly operations.
Complaints of Overpricing at Some Stalls
Despite these instructions, reports indicated that higher prices were charged at certain locations inside the venue. Following the complaints, the KCA has formally informed the BCCI, which has assured that necessary action will be taken.
The KCA said it would examine lapses by the contracted agency and expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to spectators. It added that strict corrective measures would be implemented to prevent such incidents during future matches.
