New Delhi, February 11:
Congress MP Sukhdeo Bhagat criticised the Narendra Modi-led government on Tuesday amid the controversy linked to former Army Chief General MM Naravane’s memoir.
Bhagat said the government avoids tough questions. He also claimed the public deserves clarity on India’s position on China.
Bhagat Raises Questions on China Issue
While speaking to ANI, Bhagat said the key issue is not the book’s publication status. Instead, he highlighted the larger concern of India’s stand on China.
According to him, citizens have the right to know the Prime Minister’s position. He also accused the Centre of limiting debate in Parliament.
“This government is not afraid of questions. It is afraid of those who ask questions,” Bhagat said.
Rahul Gandhi’s Parliament Remarks Triggered the Row
The controversy began after Rahul Gandhi quoted excerpts from Gen Naravane’s memoir in Lok Sabha. He made the remarks during the motion of thanks to the President’s Address.
However, the treasury benches strongly opposed his statements. Following this, the Speaker ruled against quoting unpublished literature.
Gen Naravane Confirms Memoir Not Yet Published
Meanwhile, former Army Chief Gen Manoj Mukund Naravane confirmed that his memoir has not been published yet. The book is titled “Four Stars of Destiny.”
Notably, Gen Naravane also shared an update on X and wrote:
“This is the status of the book.”
Publisher Issues Fresh Clarification
Additionally, publisher Penguin Random House India released a fresh statement. It clarified that the book was only announced and listed for pre-order.
The publisher added that the memoir has not entered publication, distribution, or sale. It also warned that any circulating copies are unauthorised and amount to copyright infringement.
Political Debate Continues
As the issue grows, the political debate in Parliament continues. Congress leaders have again demanded clarity on India’s stand on China and border-related matters.
