Kabul, March 3: Afghanistan launched airstrikes on several Pakistani military bases, including the strategically important Nur Khan Airbase in Rawalpindi, amid rising cross-border tensions between the two countries.
Afghanistan’s Ministry of National Defense confirmed the operation and stated that the Afghan Air Force directly targeted key military installations inside Pakistan. Officials described the strikes as a response to recent Pakistani air raids on Afghan territory.
Afghan Air Force Targets Major Military Locations
According to the defence ministry, Afghan forces struck multiple military facilities. These targets included:
- Nur Khan Airbase in Rawalpindi
- 12th Brigade Base in Quetta, Balochistan
- Khoizai Camp in Mohmand Agency, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Officials reported significant damage to military infrastructure at these locations. Furthermore, they stated that the operation focused on strategic defence centers.
Retaliation After Alleged Pakistani Airstrikes
Afghan authorities said Pakistan carried out air attacks in Kabul, Bagram, and nearby regions before the response. Therefore, Afghanistan initiated the strikes to defend its sovereignty.
The ministry also issued a strong warning. It said any future violation of Afghan airspace would trigger immediate military action. Moreover, officials stressed that Afghanistan would protect its territorial integrity at all costs.
Strategic Importance of Nur Khan Airbase
Nur Khan Airbase serves as one of Pakistan’s most important military aviation hubs. The base supports logistics, air operations, and defence coordination activities.
Previously, reports indicated damage to the same airbase during regional military tensions in 2025. Satellite imagery had confirmed structural impact at multiple Pakistani air facilities during that period.
