Union Home Minister Amit Shah strongly criticized Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday and released a ‘chargesheet’ against the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government.
Shah Accuses Mamata of ‘Victim Card Politics’
During a press conference in Kolkata, Amit Shah directly accused Mamata Banerjee of repeatedly using “victim card politics” to influence voters.
He stated that she often portrays herself as helpless during elections. However, he added that the people of Bengal now clearly understand this strategy. Therefore, he urged voters to move beyond such tactics.
Elections Around the Corner
Meanwhile, West Bengal is heading toward crucial assembly elections. The state will vote in two phases:
- April 23
- April 29
After that, officials will count votes on May 4. As a result, political activity has intensified across the state.
Concerns Over Voter Lists and Infiltration
Furthermore, Shah raised serious concerns about the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. He pointed out that authorities deployed judicial officers only in West Bengal, which he claimed is unusual.
Additionally, he questioned the inclusion of alleged infiltrators in voter lists. He emphasized that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) plans to:
- Identify infiltrators
- Remove them from voter lists
- Expel them from the country
Moreover, he assured stronger border control if BJP forms the government.
Debate Over OBC Classification
Shah also criticized the state government for including 77 communities in the OBC category. He claimed that most of these belong to a specific religious group.
Consequently, he questioned whether reservation policies should depend on religion. He stated that such decisions should remain fair and balanced.
Promises on Jobs and Recruitment
In addition, Shah addressed concerns about recruitment scams in the state. He promised reforms if BJP comes to power.
Specifically, he announced:
- A 5-year age relaxation for affected candidates
- Transparent recruitment processes
- Fresh opportunities through SSC recruitment
As a result, he aimed to restore trust among youth and job seekers.
Overall, Amit Shah’s remarks signal a sharp escalation in political campaigning ahead of the elections. While the BJP pushes its agenda, the TMC is expected to respond strongly. Ultimately, the upcoming elections will play a crucial role in shaping West Bengal’s political future.
