Jacob Bethell’s Century Keeps England in the Hunt
Jacob Bethell played one of the most impressive innings of the tournament. The young left-handed batter scored 105 runs from 48 balls, smashing eight fours and seven sixes.
His fearless batting kept England alive in the match even after the team lost early wickets.
During the post-match press conference, captain Harry Brook highlighted Bethell’s game awareness and tactical batting. He explained how the batter carefully targeted favourable match-ups against India’s bowlers.
Brook particularly mentioned Bethell’s approach against Varun Chakaravarthy, India’s mystery spinner.

Brook Applauds Bethell’s Cricket Intelligence
Harry Brook praised Bethell for his cricket intelligence and calm decision-making under pressure.
He explained that Bethell assessed the bowlers and conditions quickly. As a result, he managed to maintain pressure on the Indian bowling attack throughout the chase.
Brook also noted the importance of match-ups in modern T20 cricket. For example, a left-handed batter facing a left-arm spinner often has a scoring advantage. Bethell used these situations well and targeted those overs aggressively.
