Market action reflected a mixed sectoral trend, with gains in banking, healthcare, metal, and realty stocks offset by weakness in IT, FMCG, and PSU banks. Broader indices showed mild consolidation as investors maintained a cautious stance amid selective buying in defensives and profit booking in recent outperformers.

The rupee moved in a tight band around 88.67 on Wednesday, showing little direction as traders stayed on the sidelines ahead of the Bihar election results due Friday morning. The uncertainty kept overall activity subdued. Market participants also remained focused on the upcoming U.S. CPI data, which could affect the dollar index and, in turn, set the tone for the rupee. Until clearer cues emerge, the domestic currency is expected to hover within a limited range of 88.40–88.95.
