New Delhi, February 2 :
Both Houses of Parliament will discuss the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address today during the Budget Session.
Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, will speak during the debate. Congress MPs Tariq Anwar, Amarinder Raja Warring, Anto Antony, and Jothimani will also participate.
In the Lok Sabha, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will move the motion. BJP MP Tejasvi Surya will second it.
In the Rajya Sabha, BJP MP C. Sadanandan Master will propose the motion. MP Medha Vishram Kulkarni will second it.
18-Hour Debate; PM Modi to Respond on February 4
Parliament has allotted 18 hours for the discussion. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will reply on February 4. Both Houses will meet at 11 AM today.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will respond to the debate on February 11.
Budget Session to Continue Till April 2
The Budget Session will include 30 sittings over 65 days and will end on April 2.
Parliament will adjourn on February 13 for a recess. It will reconvene on March 9. Standing Committees will review the Demands for Grants during this period.
Union Budget 2026–27 Highlights
On Sunday, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget 2026–27 in the Lok Sabha. This marked her ninth consecutive budget.
The budget focuses on Yuvashakti and follows three kartavyas. It proposes:
- Seven high-speed rail corridors
- New dedicated freight corridors
- Operations of 20 national waterways within five years
The budget also promotes sustainable passenger transport. These projects aim to reduce travel time, cut emissions, and boost regional growth.
