In preparation for the upcoming Char Dham Yatra 2026, the Uttarakhand government has intensified its disaster management efforts by conducting large-scale mock drills across key pilgrimage routes in Uttarkashi district.
Mock Drills at Key Locations in Gangotri & Yamunotri
Authorities carried out mock drills at eight strategic locations across the Gangotri and Yamunotri Dham areas to simulate emergency response during potential disasters.
- Gangotri region (5 locations): Bhatwari, Papad Gad, Kedar Tal, Dharali, Telgaad
- Yamunotri region (3 locations): Yamunotri pedestrian route, Paligad, Kapad Gad
Meanwhile, all concerned departments actively participated by reaching designated spots with necessary resources and conducting real-time rescue and relief simulations.
Focus on Disaster Preparedness & Coordination
The exercise aimed to strengthen coordination among various departments, including disaster response teams, medical units, and local प्रशासन.
Additionally, officials practised handling critical situations such as landslides, medical emergencies, and crowd management. This ensures faster and more efficient responses during real emergencies.
Minister Madan Kaushik Reviews Drill
Uttarakhand Disaster Management Minister Madan Kaushik inspected the state-level mock drill conducted under the joint supervision of the National Disaster Management Authority and the Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority.
He stated that officials not only discussed possible challenges but also carried out practical planning involving district magistrates and emergency forces.
Furthermore, arrangements such as hospitals, local response teams, and even helicopter support were reviewed to ensure complete preparedness.
Safety Measures for Pilgrims
According to officials, the mock drills focused on ensuring the safety of lakhs of pilgrims expected during the yatra.
Therefore, authorities are preparing for:
- Immediate medical response
- Quick evacuation systems
- Efficient disaster control mechanisms
No Cap on Pilgrim Numbers
Earlier, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced that there will be no cap on the number of pilgrims for the Char Dham Yatra 2026.
He assured that all departments are fully prepared to ensure a smooth, सुरक्षित and well-managed pilgrimage.
