New Delhi, India – April 2: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced that India’s defence exports reached a historic high of ₹38,424 crore in FY 2025-26, reflecting an impressive 62.66% growth over the previous year. This milestone comes under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Significant Growth in Defence Exports
Singh shared his pride in this achievement on X, stating, “India’s defence exports have reached a new high of ₹38,424 crore in FY 2025-26. This reflects a robust 62.66% growth over the last fiscal.” He credited this success to growing global confidence in India’s indigenous capabilities and advanced manufacturing strength.
Public and Private Sector Contributions
The Defence Minister noted that both the public and private sectors played vital roles in this achievement. Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) accounted for 54.84%, while the private industry contributed 45.16%. Singh emphasized that this shows the strength of India’s collaborative and self-reliant defence ecosystem.
“DPSUs contributed 54.84% and private industry 45.16%,” Singh said. “This milestone highlights the power of a self-reliant and collaborative defence ecosystem.”
India’s Growing Defence Role
Earlier in March, Singh pointed out that domestic defence production surpassed ₹1.50 lakh crore in FY 2024-25. Meanwhile, defence exports reached about ₹24,000 crore. By April 2026, Singh expects exports to rise to ₹29,000 crore, with a target of ₹50,000 crore by FY 2029-30.
He also highlighted the growing contribution of the private industry, which now accounts for 25% of defence platforms and equipment. This is expected to grow to 50% in the near future.
Focus on Self-Reliance in Defence
Singh stressed that all warships and submarines ordered for the Indian Navy are now being built in India. He called this a major step towards self-reliance. “Self-reliance is no longer just a slogan; it is now a practical reality,” he said. “A Builder’s Navy is no longer just a slogan; it is now a ground reality.”
India’s defence exports have reached new heights, confirming the country’s growing influence in the global defence market. With strong leadership and a clear vision, India is moving towards greater self-reliance in the sector.
