An explosion killed two peacekeepers from the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in southern Lebanon. The blast also injured two others.
Explosion Hits UN Vehicle
The incident happened near Bani Hayyan. An explosion destroyed a UNIFIL vehicle. Two peacekeepers died at the scene. One suffered serious injuries. Another received minor wounds.
UNIFIL called the incident tragic. Officials said peacekeepers should not lose their lives while serving peace missions.
Second Deadly Incident in 24 Hours
This marks the second fatal incident in just one day. Earlier, a projectile hit a UN position near Adchit Al Qusayr. That attack killed one peacekeeper and critically injured another.
These back-to-back incidents show rising risks in the region.
Investigation Underway
UNIFIL has started an investigation. Officials aim to identify the cause of the explosion. They also want to determine who is responsible.
The mission urged all parties to follow international law. It stressed that attacks on peacekeepers are serious violations. Such acts may qualify as war crimes.
IDF Reviews Situation
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) is reviewing both incidents. Officials said the attacks occurred in an active combat zone.
The IDF has not confirmed responsibility. It is checking whether Hezbollah or military operations caused the incidents. The force stated that it does not target UN personnel or civilians.

UNIFIL expressed condolences to the victims’ families. It also called for an end to violence in the region.
