The first Test between India and South Africa began today, 14 November, at the Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata. South Africa captain Temba Bavuma won the toss and chose to bat first.
However, the South African innings collapsed quickly. By the third session of Day 1, the team was bowled out for just 159 runs. Jasprit Bumrah led India’s attack brilliantly, taking five wickets. Aiden Markram scored the highest for South Africa with 31 runs.
India Trails by 122 Runs at Stumps: Score 37/1
At the end of Day 1, Team India scored 37/1 in their first innings and now trails South Africa by 122 runs.
KL Rahul is batting on 13 runs off 59 balls, while Washington Sundar is on 6 runs off 38 balls.
Earlier, India bowled out South Africa for 159. Jasprit Bumrah was the star of the day with his five-wicket haul, breaking yet another record. India now appears to be in a strong position in the match.
South Africa Turns to Spin Early
South Africa captain Temba Bavuma quickly realized that the Eden Gardens pitch is likely to assist spinners.
By the 13th over of India’s innings, he introduced left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj, who has Indian roots.

India lost their first wicket in the form of Yashasvi Jaiswal.

South Africa’s First-Innings Collapse
South Africa’s innings started well but fell apart quickly in the final session.
They were bowled out for 159 runs.

South Africa was close to being bowled out.
The second session was completely dominated by India.
