New York: India strongly rebutted Pakistan at the United Nations on Monday. New Delhi dismissed Pakistan’s remarks on Operation Sindoor as false and misleading. India also stated that Pakistan has no locus standi on matters related to Jammu and Kashmir.
India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Harish Parvathaneni, responded during the UN Security Council Open Debate. He said Pakistan follows a single-point agenda to target India and its people.
The envoy stated that Pakistan presented a false and self-serving narrative of Operation Sindoor. He clarified that the facts are clear and well documented.
India Justifies Action After Pahalgam Terror Attack
Ambassador Parvathaneni recalled the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, where Pakistan-sponsored terrorists killed 26 innocent civilians. The UN Security Council condemned the attack at the time.
“The Security Council called for accountability of the perpetrators, sponsors, and financiers. India acted exactly in line with that demand,” he said.
India carried out Operation Sindoor in a measured and responsible manner. The operation aimed only to dismantle terrorist infrastructure. It did not target civilians or escalate tensions.
Operation Sindoor Targeted Terror Camps
The Indian Armed Forces launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, 2025. They struck nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. India launched the operation in response to the Pahalgam terror attack.
Pakistan continued to threaten India until May 9. After that, the Pakistani military contacted India to seek a halt in hostilities.
The Indian envoy said images of damaged Pakistani airbases are publicly available. These images show destroyed runways and burnt hangars.
Terrorism Cannot Be Normalised
Responding to Pakistan’s reference to a “new normal,” India rejected the claim. Ambassador Parvathaneni said terrorism can never be treated as normal.
“It is not acceptable to tolerate terrorism as a state policy,” he said. He warned that the Security Council must not become a platform to justify terror activities.
India, he added, will take all necessary steps to protect its citizens.
No Locus Standi on Jammu and Kashmir
India reaffirmed its position on Jammu and Kashmir. Ambassador Parvathaneni stated that the Union Territory is an integral and inalienable part of India. Pakistan, he said, has no authority to comment on India’s internal matters.
Indus Waters Treaty Put on Hold
On the Indus Waters Treaty, India said it signed the agreement in good faith 65 years ago. However, Pakistan repeatedly violated its spirit through wars and cross-border terrorism.
India placed the treaty in abeyance until Pakistan permanently ends its support for terrorism.
Call for Rule of Law and UN Reforms
India advised Pakistan to reflect on its own rule of law. The envoy referred to Pakistan’s constitutional changes and the role of its armed forces.
In conclusion, India urged the United Nations to strengthen international law. It also called for reforms in multilateral institutions to ensure global peace and security.
