New Delhi, February 20:
India will formally join Pax Silica, a US-led initiative focused on artificial intelligence (AI) and supply chain security, on the sidelines of the Global AI Impact Summit 2026 in the national capital.
Pax Silica is the US Department of State’s flagship effort aimed at strengthening economic security through trusted AI partnerships and resilient supply chains. The declaration highlights the need for reliable supply chains and recognises AI as a transformative force for long-term prosperity.
What Is Pax Silica?
Pax Silica promotes collaboration among allies and trusted partners to secure emerging technologies and reduce supply chain vulnerabilities.
According to the US State Department, signatories include Australia, Greece, Israel, Japan, Qatar, South Korea, Singapore, UAE and the UK. Non-signatory participants include Canada, the Netherlands, the European Union, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and Taiwan.
India’s formal participation signals stronger India-US cooperation in AI governance and economic security.
US Delegation at India AI Impact Summit
The US delegation to the summit is led by Michael Kratsios, Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. Under Secretary of State for Economic Affairs Jacob Helberg is also visiting India from February 20-21.
Helberg is expected to hold bilateral meetings and deliver remarks at the summit. Discussions will focus on strengthening economic ties, emerging technologies, and launching the next phase of the American AI Exports Program under the US AI Action Plan.
India’s Growing Role in Global Supply Chain Security
The development follows India’s recent participation in the Critical Minerals Ministerial convened by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington DC.
S. Jaishankar represented India at the ministerial and emphasised the need to “de-risk” global critical mineral supply chains. He highlighted concerns about excessive concentration and called for structured international cooperation.
Jaishankar also expressed India’s support for the Forum on Resource and Geostrategic Engagement (FORGE), a new initiative focused on strengthening mineral supply resilience.
Narendra Modi Outlines MANA Vision for AI
At the India AI Impact Summit 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced the MANA Vision for AI governance:
- M – Moral and Ethical Systems
- A – Accountable Governance
- N – National Sovereignty
- A – Accessible and Inclusive
- V – Valid and Legitimate
He stressed that AI must remain human-centric, transparent and inclusive. He called for a trusted global data framework, “glass box” safety standards, and alignment of profit with purpose.
Modi said India’s MANAV vision will play a crucial role in shaping an ethical AI ecosystem for the 21st century.
Global South at the Centre of AI Governance
The India AI Impact Summit 2026, the first major global AI summit hosted in the Global South, brought together policymakers, industry leaders, academics and civil society representatives.
The summit aims to promote responsible AI governance, inclusive technological development and equitable access to AI resources. Leaders emphasised that AI should serve humanity and not remain limited to a few nations or corporations.
Strengthening India-US Strategic Tech Partnership
India’s decision to join Pax Silica reflects deepening India-US cooperation in advanced technologies, economic resilience and supply chain security.
As geopolitical risks and technological competition intensify globally, partnerships like Pax Silica aim to build secure and transparent AI ecosystems.
Analysts say India’s participation strengthens its position as a key player in global AI governance and trusted technology networks.
