Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Tuesday welcomed the India–United States trade deal. He said the agreement would strongly support the Make in India initiative.
The United States reduced tariffs on Indian goods to 18 per cent under the deal. Patel said this decision would expand market access for Indian products. He added that MSMEs, farmers, youth, and businesses would benefit directly.
Patel Praises PM Modi’s Leadership
In a post on X, Patel congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for securing the agreement. He described the deal as a historic step in India-US relations.
According to Patel, reduced tariffs will open new export opportunities. The move will also improve investor confidence. Stronger cooperation between the two countries will drive growth and innovation.
Trade Agreement Details
US President Donald Trump announced the trade deal on Monday. The announcement came months after the US imposed 50 per cent tariffs on Indian goods in August 2025.
The earlier duty included a 25 per cent component linked to India’s crude oil imports from Russia. Under the new agreement, the US reduced reciprocal tariffs from 25 per cent to 18 per cent.
Trump shared the details on his platform Truth Social. He said India would reduce tariffs and non-tariff barriers on US goods to zero. He also claimed India would increase purchases of American products.
PM Modi Welcomes Tariff Cut
After the announcement, Prime Minister Modi reacted on X. He welcomed the reduced tariff on Made in India products.
Modi said the decision would benefit Indian exporters. He thanked President Trump for the move. The Prime Minister also called the conversation positive and productive.
Implementation Clarity Awaited
US International Development Finance Corporation Deputy CEO Nisha Biswal spoke about the agreement. She said negotiators had discussed many details over several months.
However, she noted that officials have not released final implementation guidelines yet. She added that the final terms would become clear soon.
The India-US trade deal is expected to boost exports. It will also strengthen economic ties between the two nations.
