More than 40 people have reportedly died after a bus carrying Indian pilgrims from Mecca to Medina caught fire after colliding with a diesel tanker near Mufrihat.
Jaishankar Expresses Shock
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said he was “deeply shocked” by the deadly bus accident near Madinah, Saudi Arabia, involving Indian Umrah pilgrims.
In a post on X, he noted that the Indian Embassy in Riyadh and the Consulate in Jeddah are offering full support.
He also expressed condolences and wished the injured a quick recovery.
Emergency Control Room Activated
Soon after the crash, the Consulate General of India in Jeddah activated a 24×7 control room.
The team is assisting relatives and coordinating the emergency response.
Moreover, officials are closely tracking updates on casualties, injuries, and hospital admissions.
Telangana Leaders Seek Details
Reports suggested that several victims were from Hyderabad.
Therefore, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy asked officials to remain in close contact with the Embassy in Riyadh.
He requested constant updates on the situation.
Meanwhile, Chief Secretary A. Santhi Kumari instructed Resident Commissioner Gaurav Uppal to verify how many passengers from Telangana were on board.
A control room at the state Secretariat is also monitoring the incident.
Owaisi Confirms 42 Pilgrims on the Bus
AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi expressed grief and urged the Centre to bring back the bodies.
He confirmed that 42 pilgrims from Hyderabad were on the bus.
Owaisi spoke to Abu Mathen George, the Deputy Chief of Mission in Riyadh.
He also coordinated with two Hyderabad travel agencies and shared passenger details with the Embassy and the Foreign Secretary.
