Government Steps Up Evacuation Efforts as Airspace Disruptions Continue
New Delhi, March 19: Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said that around 280,000 people have returned to India from West Asia since February 28 amid rising tensions and travel disruptions in the region.
The update came during an official briefing by Aseem Mahajan.
Flight Operations Gradually Improving
Officials stated that despite restrictions in some countries, flight operations are improving. Airlines have increased the number of flights to handle passenger movement.
Around 75 flights operated between the UAE and India on March 18. Nearly 90 flights are expected to operate today.
Flights from Oman and Saudi Arabia are also running regularly.
Limited Flights from Qatar, Closures in Some Regions
Qatar has partially opened its airspace. Qatar Airways is operating limited non-scheduled flights to India.
However, airspace in Kuwait and Bahrain remains closed.
To manage the situation, airlines are using alternative routes. Special flights are operating from Saudi Arabia to help stranded passengers return to India.
Government Assisting Stranded Indians
The Indian government continues to assist citizens affected by travel restrictions.
Officials are arranging transit routes through Saudi Arabia for emergency cases. Authorities are also coordinating with airlines and regional governments to ensure safe travel.
SAFESEA VISHNU Crew Returning to India
In a related development, 15 Indian crew members from the oil tanker SAFESEA VISHNU have safely left Iraq. They are expected to return to India soon.
Officials are also working with Iraqi authorities to bring back the mortal remains of an Indian national who died in the incident.
Conflict Disrupting Global Travel and Economy
The ongoing conflict in West Asia has impacted international travel and energy supply routes. Restrictions in key areas have disrupted flights and increased uncertainty.
The closure of important routes has also affected global markets and economic stability.
The MEA continues to monitor the situation closely. Efforts remain focused on ensuring the safe return of Indian nationals as the situation evolves.
