New Delhi, March 23: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar called for stronger global cooperation through platforms like BRICS, Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, G20, and the United Nations. He said this is necessary in a rapidly evolving multipolar world.
Need for Collective Global Action
Jaishankar said the changing global landscape requires nations to work together. Therefore, countries must strengthen cooperation through multilateral platforms.
He added that India will follow a “humanity-first” approach during its BRICS chairmanship. At the same time, India will work closely with Russia and other partners.
India-Russia Partnership Remains Strong
Meanwhile, Jaishankar reaffirmed India’s strong ties with Russia. He described the relationship as a long-standing and trusted partnership.
He also noted that this cooperation has contributed to global peace and stability over the years.
Focus on Nuclear Energy Cooperation
In addition, Jaishankar highlighted Russia’s role in India’s nuclear sector. He referred to the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant as a successful example.
India aims to increase its nuclear capacity to 100 gigawatts by 2047. Therefore, cooperation with Russia will remain important.
Trade Target Set for 2030
On the economic front, India and Russia plan to increase trade to USD 100 billion by 2030.
To achieve this, both countries will:
- Finalize the India-EAEU Free Trade Agreement
- Reduce trade barriers
- Improve regulatory processes
Role of Skilled Workforce
Furthermore, Jaishankar highlighted the importance of India’s skilled workforce. He said it will play a key role in boosting trade and cooperation.
