Several Members of Parliament on Wednesday expressed shock and grief after reports surfaced about a charter aircraft crash near Baramati in Maharashtra, which was said to be carrying Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.
According to initial reports, the news triggered widespread concern across political circles. As a result, leaders from different parties described the development as heart-rending and deeply painful.
Leaders Recall Ajit Pawar’s Role in Baramati
Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Arvind Sawant said the news came as a major shock.
He added that Ajit Pawar played a key role in the development of the Baramati region.
“It is very sad news. Moreover, he was a bold leader who contributed immensely to Baramati’s growth,” Sawant said.
Notably, Ajit Pawar is the nephew of veteran leader Sharad Pawar and the cousin of Lok Sabha MP Supriya Sule.
MPs Across Parties Express Grief
Similarly, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi termed the reports shocking and emotionally disturbing.
“Although there were political differences, we worked together. Therefore, this news is extremely painful,” she said, while extending condolences to the Pawar family and the people of Baramati.
At the same time, Revolutionary Socialist Party MP NK Premachandran urged restraint.
He said authorities should wait for official findings before reaching conclusions.
“At present, we do not know the full details. Hence, it is important to wait for the investigation report,” he added.
What Is Known About the Crash So Far
According to officials, the small charter aircraft took off from Mumbai around 8 am.
However, it reportedly crashed near Baramati airport while attempting to land about 45 minutes later.
Subsequently, visuals from the crash site showed thick smoke and flames rising from the wreckage.
Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said that all five passengers on board the aircraft died in the crash.
Centre and State Governments Monitoring Situation
Following the incident, the Maharashtra government said Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to receive updates.
Additionally, Union Ministers HD Kumaraswamy and Giriraj Singh expressed shock and condolences over the incident.
Official Confirmation Awaited
Earlier, Ajit Pawar was scheduled to travel to Baramati for a public rally linked to Zilla Parishad elections.
Therefore, authorities have stated that more clarity will emerge after verification and a detailed investigation.
