Moktowa (Arunachal Pradesh), February 13:
In a major success for security forces in Arunachal Pradesh, a cadre of the NSCN-K (Khango Konyak) surrendered before the Assam Rifles in Tirap district.
The surrender took place at the Khonsa Battalion Headquarters after a focused operation was launched in the Moktowa area.
Operation launched on specific intelligence
According to officials, the Khonsa Battalion of Assam Rifles acted on specific intelligence inputs. These inputs suggested the presence of a hardcore Armed Naga Extremist (ANE) in the Moktowa region.
Therefore, a focused and intelligence-based operation was initiated on Tuesday.
Security forces persuaded the cadre to surrender
Instead of using force, the security personnel used sustained persuasion and coordinated efforts. As a result, the individual agreed to abandon violence and return to the mainstream.
The cadre surrendered peacefully at the Battalion Headquarters in Khonsa.

The surrendered individual has been identified as:
- Name: Wangkhu Lowang
- Age: 32 years
- Rank: Self-styled Lieutenant
- Group: NSCN-K (Khango Konyak)
- Resident of: Moktowa village, Dadam, Tirap district
Weapon and ammunition recovered
During the surrender, Wangkhu Lowang deposited:
- One 7.65 mm pistol
- One magazine
- Six live rounds of 7.65 mm ammunition
Assam Rifles continues peace efforts
Officials said the surrender highlights the success of intelligence-based operations. Moreover, it also reflects the humane and persuasive approach adopted by security forces.
Assam Rifles, along with other security agencies, continues to work for peace, stability, and security in the region. In addition, they are encouraging misguided youth to return to the mainstream.
Army and Assam Rifles operations in Manipur
Meanwhile, the Indian Army and Assam Rifles formations under Spear Corps conducted multiple intelligence-driven operations in Manipur between February 1 and 7.
These operations were carried out in coordination with the Manipur Police. As a result, security forces apprehended 7 cadres from hill and valley-based groups.
Moreover, they recovered 18 weapons, explosives, and other war-like stores.
Key recoveries during operations
- February 1: One cadre of Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (SOREPA) was apprehended. A smartphone with SIM card was recovered.
- February 2: A concealed insurgent hideout was detected near Tonglhang village. Security forces recovered an AK-47 rifle, pistols, rifles, radio sets, and 18 IEDs.
- All 18 IEDs were destroyed on the spot following safety protocols.
