Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday shared his views on India’s growing role in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) revolution, stating that AI is at a major civilisational turning point and must remain human-centric while accelerating global development.
The Prime Minister shared his thoughts while replying to ANI’s post on X, as India hosted the India AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi.
“AI Must Serve Humanity, Not Replace It”: PM Modi
In his message, PM Modi wrote that as India hosts the summit, he has shared his views on the transformative potential of AI, and the role India can play in shaping the future of this technology.
In a special interview with ANI, the Prime Minister stressed that the summit is guided by the motto:
“Sarvajan Hitay, Sarvajan Sukhaye”
(“Welfare for all, happiness for all”)
He explained that the purpose of AI should always be to serve people, not replace human decision-making.
India AI Impact Summit 2026: First Global AI Summit in Global South
The India AI Impact Summit 2026 is the first global AI summit of this scale to be organised in the Global South, bringing together:
- Heads of State and Government
- Ministers and policy leaders
- Global technology leaders
- Industry stakeholders
The summit focuses on how AI can strengthen public systems, support sustainable development, and drive inclusive growth.
AI for Viksit Bharat 2047
PM Modi said AI can become a major force in India’s journey towards Viksit Bharat 2047, helping solve deep developmental challenges while creating new economic opportunities.
He highlighted multiple areas where AI is already making an impact in India:
Healthcare
AI tools are being used for early detection of diseases like:
- Tuberculosis
- Diabetic retinopathy
- Epilepsy
Education
AI-powered learning platforms in Indian languages are helping students in rural and government schools.
Agriculture
AI is being integrated into:
- Crop advisory
- Soil analytics
- Weather intelligence
Women Empowerment
PM Modi shared that Amul is using AI to guide 36 lakh women dairy farmers through real-time advice in Gujarati.
PM Modi Warns Against AI Bias
The Prime Minister also raised concerns about AI bias, stating that AI systems may unintentionally discriminate based on:
- Gender
- Language
- Socio-economic background
He said India’s diversity makes it important to build AI models trained on inclusive datasets, including regional languages and rural contexts.
DPI + AI: India’s Model for Global South
PM Modi highlighted India’s success in building low-cost Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) such as:
- Aadhaar
- UPI
- Digital public goods
He said combining DPI with AI can improve governance through:
- Better welfare targeting
- Fraud detection
- Predictive maintenance
- Urban planning support
- Transparency in public systems
He also stressed the need for strong data privacy and responsible AI regulation.
India’s Vision: Become a Top AI Superpower
PM Modi said India has the talent and entrepreneurial energy to become an AI powerhouse not just as a consumer, but as a creator.
He noted that government initiatives such as the IndiaAI Mission, AI Centres of Excellence, and investments in compute infrastructure are helping India build the foundation to shape the global AI era.
AI Safety and Deepfake Threats
PM Modi acknowledged concerns about AI misuse, especially deepfakes, and said the world needs a global compact on AI governance.
He highlighted that India launched the IndiaAI Safety Institute in January 2025 to ensure ethical and safe AI deployment.
He also mentioned rules requiring watermarking of AI-generated content and stronger digital protection through the Digital Personal Data Protection Act.
“AI Will Transform Jobs, Not Destroy Them”: PM Modi
Addressing job concerns among youth, PM Modi said history shows technology changes the nature of work but also creates new opportunities.
He said the government is investing heavily in skilling and re-skilling initiatives to prepare India’s workforce for an AI-driven future.

The Prime Minister concluded by stating that India must create technology, not just consume it.
He said Aatmanirbhar Bharat in AI means India writing its own code for the digital century—ensuring AI reflects India’s values and serves humanity.
