New Delhi, March 18, 2026: Dilip Saikia said that Pradyut Bordoloi joining the BJP is a major blow to the Congress party ahead of the upcoming elections in Assam.

Firstly, Saikia described Bordoloi as a senior leader whose exit sends a strong political message.
“His joining BJP is a huge setback for Congress. It reflects the current situation within the party,” Saikia said.

Meanwhile, BJP leader Diganta Kalita welcomed Bordoloi’s move. He claimed that the decision has weakened Congress significantly in Assam.
“Big leaders are leaving Congress one by one. This has broken the backbone of the party,” Kalita said.

On the other hand, Pradyut Bordoloi clarified that his decision was based on multiple issues within the party.
He stated that:
- The decision was not about election tickets
- Internal issues and treatment influenced his exit
- He chose self-respect over continuing in the party
“I decided to leave and continue my work independently,” he said.
