Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh – April 2: Delhi Capitals (DC) batter Sameer Rizvi impressed with a match-winning half-century against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Wednesday. After the match, Rizvi shared his thoughts on the clear role assigned to him by the DC coaches and his approach to playing positive cricket.
Rizvi’s Role and Positive Cricket Approach
Rizvi mentioned that his coaches clearly communicated to him that he would bat at No. 4 and backed him to play an aggressive, positive style of cricket. “I spoke to the coach, and they told me I will only play four numbers, and they will back me. They asked me to play positive cricket,” Rizvi said after the match. “I wanted to give my best and win for my team. It feels good,” he added.
Challenging Pitch Conditions at Ekana Cricket Stadium
The DC batter also acknowledged the challenging pitch conditions at Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, where the ball was swinging and seaming, making it tough for batters, especially against fast bowlers. “The wicket was very sticky, and the ball was swinging and seaming as well. It was tough for a batsman to play a fast bowler,” Rizvi explained.
Rizvi’s Performance and Focus on the Season Ahead
Rizvi, who is still relatively new to the IPL, expressed his focus on staying consistent throughout the 2026 season. He acknowledged the start of the season and said he would concentrate on delivering solid performances in upcoming matches.
“I have not played many innings in the IPL. This season has just started. I will focus on the next match and try to perform consistently,” Rizvi added.
Rizvi played an outstanding unbeaten knock of 70 runs off 47 balls, leading DC to a six-wicket victory over LSG. With this win, DC successfully chased down a challenging target of 142 runs, securing the win with 17 balls to spare.
Delhi Capitals’ Winning Streak Against LSG
This victory marked DC’s fifth consecutive win over LSG in the IPL, solidifying their dominance against the team. Previously, DC also achieved similar streaks against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals, further showcasing their consistent performances.
