Chaibasa, Jharkhand | January 22, 2026 :
An encounter broke out between Naxals and security forces in the Saranda Forest area of Chaibasa, Jharkhand, on Wednesday. Security officials confirmed that anti-Naxal operations are currently underway in the dense forest region.
According to Jharkhand Police, security forces launched a search operation in the Saranda forests following intelligence inputs about Naxal movement. An exchange of fire began when the forces encountered armed insurgents.
Security Operation Ongoing in Saranda Forests
Police officials said additional forces have been deployed in the area, and the operation remains active. Authorities have not yet confirmed casualties or recoveries from the current encounter.
The Saranda forest region has long been considered a Naxal-affected zone due to its difficult terrain and dense vegetation.
Recent Anti-Naxal Successes in Bastar Region
Earlier, on January 17–18, security forces killed six Naxals in an encounter in Bijapur district under the Bastar range.
Following that operation, forces recovered:
- Two AK-47 rifles
- One INSAS (NASA) rifle
- Two .303 rifles
- One BGL launcher
Deputy Chief Minister earlier stated that four Naxals were confirmed killed, including Dilip Bedja, a senior Naxal operative active in the national park area for several years.
PM Modi Warns Against Urban Naxalism
On January 20, Prime Minister Narendra Modi raised concerns over the growing influence of urban Naxalism while addressing BJP workers at the party’s national headquarters.
“Urban Naxalism is becoming international in nature. Anyone who speaks positively about the nation or the government is silenced and isolated,” PM Modi said.
He also warned that infiltrators pose a serious threat to national security and stressed the need for strict identification and deportation.
Focus on National Security Intensifies
Security agencies continue to intensify operations across Naxal-affected regions in Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and other central Indian states. Officials said coordinated action between state police and central forces aims to dismantle insurgent networks and restore peace.
