US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor on Saturday praised US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the India-US joint statement outlining a framework for an interim trade agreement.
The US envoy called it a “new day” for the partnership between the two countries.
Sergio Gor Calls It a “New Day”
Ambassador Gor shared his reaction on X (formerly Twitter).
“A new day! All credit to President Trump and Prime Minister Modi for their leadership and vision in achieving this,” he wrote.
In another post, he added:
“From the desk of the President of the United States!”
US Trade Representative Greer Welcomes Announcement
Meanwhile, US Trade Representative Ambassador Greer welcomed President Trump’s announcement on Friday.
He said the interim framework will reduce tariff and non-tariff barriers. He also said it will open India’s market further for American products.
Deal Expected to Benefit US Workers and Farmers
According to Greer, the agreement will significantly benefit US workers, farmers, and producers.
“President Trump’s dealmaking is unlocking one of the largest economies in the world for American workers and producers,” he said.
Greer added that the deal will lower tariffs on US industrial goods. It will also reduce tariffs on a broad range of agricultural products.

In his statement, Greer also thanked India’s Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal.
He credited Goyal for his leadership and commitment to achieving fair and balanced trade between the two nations.
Framework Linked to Broader US-India BTA
The joint statement is part of broader efforts to strengthen US-India economic ties.
It follows President Trump’s announcement of a framework to expand market access and reduce trade barriers.
The interim agreement is also a major step toward the US-India Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) negotiations. These talks were launched in February 2025 by President Trump and Prime Minister Modi.
The framework was announced through a joint statement released by the White House and India’s Commerce Ministry.
