Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer has been fined ₹12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during an Indian Premier League 2026 match against the Gujarat Titans. The decision was confirmed in an official IPL statement.
First Over-Rate Offence of the Season
According to the IPL authorities, this is the first slow over-rate offence by the Punjab Kings this season. Therefore, the penalty falls under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct.
As a result, Shreyas Iyer has been fined ₹12 lakh. He also became the first captain to face such a penalty in IPL 2026.
Match Played at New Chandigarh Stadium
The incident occurred during Match No. 4 at the New International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur. Despite the penalty, Punjab Kings secured a thrilling victory.
They defeated the Gujarat Titans by three wickets in a closely contested match.
Cooper Connolly Shines on Debut
The match saw a standout performance from Cooper Connolly. He scored an unbeaten 72 runs off 44 balls.
As a result, Punjab Kings successfully chased the target of 162 runs in 19.1 overs. Connolly was also named Player of the Match for his impressive debut performance.

Punjab Kings were in a strong position initially. However, they lost quick wickets, slipping from 110/2 to 118/6.
