Bengaluru (Karnataka), February 18:
BJP MP Tejasvi Surya recently took US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor to the famous 16th-century Gavi Gangadhareshwara Temple located in Basavanagudi, Bengaluru. The visit highlighted the city’s rich cultural heritage beyond its identity as India’s technology hub.
Sharing details of the visit, Surya described the temple as a rare blend of faith, architecture, and astronomy, calling it a powerful symbol of Bengaluru’s civilizational depth.
Tejasvi Surya Highlights Bengaluru’s Traditional Soul
According to Surya, Ambassador Sergio Gor expressed interest in understanding the timeless and traditional side of Bengaluru, which led to the visit.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Surya wrote that the temple was built by Kempegowda, the founder of Bengaluru, and remains one of the city’s most unique spiritual landmarks.
Summer Solstice Phenomenon Makes the Temple Special
Surya further highlighted the temple’s famous summer solstice phenomenon, which draws attention from devotees, historians, and architecture enthusiasts.
During the summer solstice, sunlight passes precisely between the horns of Nandi and illuminates the deity inside the rock-cut cave shrine—an event that reflects the deep astronomical understanding of ancient Indian temple design.
He praised Ambassador Gor for paying tribute to Bengaluru’s enduring traditions.
US Ambassador Meets Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah
On Tuesday, Ambassador Sergio Gor also met Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, where discussions focused on strengthening US-Bengaluru ties, particularly in AI and emerging technologies.
In another post on X, Gor said the meeting was productive and highlighted that Karnataka currently hosts over 700 US companies, making it a major hub for global collaboration.
US-India Defence Partnership Also Discussed
In a separate development, Ambassador Sergio Gor and US-INDOPACOM Commander Admiral Samuel J. Paparo visited HQ Western Command and held discussions with Lt. Gen. Manoj Kumar Katiyar, Army Commander, Western Command.
The delegation was briefed on strategic security dynamics along India’s Western Front, operational preparedness, and the Indian Army’s role in strengthening regional stability.

Growing US-India Cooperation Across Culture, Tech, and Defence
The series of engagements shows how India-US relations are expanding across multiple areas—from cultural diplomacy and heritage exploration to technology partnerships and defence cooperation.
Bengaluru, in particular, continues to play a key role as a city that represents both India’s ancient roots and modern global leadership.
