Chennai (Tamil Nadu), January 17:
Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam – TVK) President Vijay on Friday announced the formation of an Election Campaign Committee. The move comes as preparations intensify for the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2026.
Election Campaign Committee to Oversee Statewide Activities
Vijay said the committee will manage and supervise campaign activities across Tamil Nadu. It will function at the state, district, and constituency levels. The panel will cover all 234 Assembly constituencies in the state.
He stated that the committee will play a key role in strengthening the party’s organisational presence. It will also ensure smooth coordination during the election campaign.
Focus on Strategy and Grassroots Mobilisation
According to Vijay, the committee will organise consultative meetings and campaign programmes. It will also conduct other organisational activities required for elections. These efforts aim to ensure effective implementation of campaign strategies.
Vijay urged party leaders and cadres to cooperate fully with the committee. He stressed that unity and coordination are essential for successful campaigning.
Political Activity Intensifies in Tamil Nadu
The announcement comes as political parties across Tamil Nadu accelerate preparations for the 2026 elections. Organisational restructuring and strategy meetings have gained momentum statewide.
The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK)-led National Democratic Alliance aims to return to power. The alliance renewed ties with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after parting ways in 2023.
Meanwhile, the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) is preparing to defend its mandate. The party enters the race with confidence after a strong performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Congress Leaders to Hold Strategy Meeting
In addition, senior leaders of the Indian National Congress from Tamil Nadu will meet the party’s central leadership in New Delhi. The meeting will focus on election strategy and seat-sharing plans.
Tamil Nadu is expected to hold Assembly elections in the first half of 2026, setting the stage for a closely watched political contest.
