Tinsukia, March 23: Security forces launched a swift response after suspected militants of ULFA(I) carried out a standoff attack near an Assam Police Commando camp in Jagun, located in Tinsukia.
The attack took place around 2:00 AM on Sunday and left behind dangerous unexploded ordnance, including RPG and UBGL rounds, posing a serious risk to civilians in the area.
Army Conducts Safe Disposal Operation
Soon after the attack, Indian Army’s bomb disposal experts, known as Red Shield Sappers, reached the site along with teams from the Assam Rifles.
They immediately secured the area and enforced strict safety protocols. The team then shifted the unexploded ordnance to a safe location and neutralised it through a controlled operation.
Officials confirmed that the operation eliminated all threats without causing harm to civilians or property.
Swift Action Prevents Major Damage
The coordinated response by the Army and security forces ensured that the situation remained under control. Their timely action prevented potential casualties and damage in the surrounding area.
Authorities stated that the forces followed all standard procedures while handling the explosives with precision and care.
Injuries Reported, Search Operation Underway
According to officials, at least four Assam Police personnel sustained injuries during the militant attack. Security forces have now launched a joint counter-insurgency operation to track down those responsible.

Himanta Biswa Sarma strongly condemned the incident and assured strict action against the perpetrators.
He stated that both the Army and Police are actively working to identify and apprehend those involved. He also emphasized the government’s commitment to maintaining peace and development in the region.
