Dehradun, Uttarakhand | March 28, 2026
Amid rising global tensions affecting energy supply routes, Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan chaired a high-level meeting in Dehradun to ensure the uninterrupted availability of fuel, gas, and essential commodities across the state.
Focus on Supply Stability
During the meeting, officials reviewed the impact of disruptions in global shipping routes, particularly the Strait of Hormuz, on fuel availability. However, the Chief Secretary assured that Uttarakhand currently has adequate stock of gas and essential commodities, and there is no need for public panic.
Key Areas of Discussion
The meeting covered multiple critical aspects to maintain smooth supply chains, including:
- Availability of domestic and commercial gas
- Demand from hospitals, industries, and institutions
- Additional requirements during the upcoming Char Dham Yatra
- Fertilizer supply and prevention of hoarding
- Expansion of PNG pipelines and CNG availability
- Measures to control black marketing and rumours
Push for Green Energy
Furthermore, Anand Bardhan emphasized the urgent need to shift toward green and alternative energy sources. He directed departments to promote:
- Biogas plants
- Solar cookers and stoves
- Pine needle briquettes
- Electric vehicles
This move aims to reduce dependency on imports and support India’s carbon neutrality target by 2070.
Strict Monitoring and Enforcement
To maintain transparency and prevent misuse, the administration ordered strict monitoring measures. Authorities will:
- Conduct daily inspections of stock registers
- Take action against black marketing and hoarding
- Monitor supply chains, especially near the Nepal border
Additionally, the Agriculture Department will ensure fair fertilizer distribution using agri-tech and farmer data.
Preparations for Char Dham Yatra
Meanwhile, departments have been instructed to prepare for increased demand during the Char Dham Yatra. Officials will coordinate with the central government to secure additional fuel supplies if needed.
Support for Citizens Abroad
The state government also plans to assist residents stranded in Gulf and Middle Eastern countries. Authorities will:
- Launch toll-free helpline numbers
- Appoint nodal officers at state and district levels
Overall, the high-level meeting reflects Uttarakhand’s proactive approach to managing essential supplies during global uncertainties. With strong monitoring, strategic planning, and a shift toward green energy, the state aims to ensure stability and sustainability in the coming months.
