Dehradun (Uttarakhand), January 17:
The Uttarakhand government has sealed more than 250 illegal madrasas and removed encroachments from over 10,000 acres of government land, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said on Saturday.
Action to Protect Cultural Identity of Devbhoomi
In a post on X, CM Dhami said the state government is committed to preserving the cultural identity of Devbhoomi Uttarakhand. He stated that strict action is underway against unlawful institutions and illegal land occupations.
“Uttarakhand has a distinct cultural identity. To protect it, our government is working with full commitment,” Dhami said.
Illegal Encroachments Removed Across the State
The Chief Minister said authorities removed illegal encroachments from more than 10,000 acres of government land. He added that many of these encroachments existed in the name of religious structures.
Dhami also said officials sealed over 250 unauthorised madrasas. According to him, these institutions violated prescribed norms and regulations.
“Our government will not compromise on Devbhoomi’s culture, social harmony, or law and order,” he said.
CM Dhami Highlights Disaster Preparedness Initiatives
Meanwhile, CM Dhami also addressed a one-day workshop on Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience at Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee through virtual mode.
He said the workshop focused on disaster preparedness, early warning systems, community participation, and risk mitigation strategies. The discussions also covered earthquakes, landslides, cloudbursts, heavy rainfall, avalanches, and forest fires.
Technology-Driven Disaster Management Plan
The Chief Minister said the state is strengthening disaster management through AI-based warning systems, digital monitoring, drone surveillance, GIS mapping, and satellite monitoring. He also highlighted the establishment of a glacier research centre and rapid response teams.
Dhami referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 4P mantra—Predict, Prevent, Prepare, Protect. He said Uttarakhand is working on a 10-point agenda aligned with this vision.
Improved Coordination Among Departments
CM Dhami added that coordination has improved among the Disaster Management Department, Forest Department, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and local administration.
He said the suggestions from the IIT Roorkee workshop will benefit not only Uttarakhand but also the entire Himalayan region.
