Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said that initiatives such as the Kashi Tamil Sangamam and Saurashtra Tamil Sangamam have significantly strengthened the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’ by deepening cultural and civilisational ties across India.
Sharing his views on the occasion of Pongal, the Prime Minister highlighted the growing impact of these initiatives in promoting national unity and cultural integration.
PM Modi Shares Views During Pongal
In a post on social media platform X, PM Modi said he recently interacted with people during his visit to Somnath at the Somnath Swabhiman Parv.
He noted that many people appreciated efforts like the Kashi Tamil Sangamam for fostering cultural harmony.
“On the special occasion of Pongal, I shared my thoughts on the growth of the Kashi Tamil Sangamam and how it deepens the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’,” the Prime Minister said.

Historic Bond Between Kashi and Tamil Nadu
In his official blog, PM Modi highlighted the deep historical and spiritual connection between Kashi and Tamil culture.
He noted that while Baba Vishwanath resides in Kashi, Rameswaram holds equal spiritual importance in Tamil Nadu.
He also mentioned Tenkasi, often referred to as Dakshin Kashi, and praised Saint Kumaraguruparar Swamigal for strengthening cultural ties through spirituality and scholarship.
Role of Tamil Icons in National Integration
PM Modi recalled the contribution of Mahakavi Subramania Bharati, who spent a significant period in Kashi.
According to the Prime Minister, Bharati’s time in Kashi shaped his nationalism, poetry, and vision of a united India.
Growth of Kashi Tamil Sangamam
The first edition of the Kashi Tamil Sangamam was held in 2022, which the Prime Minister inaugurated.
Participants included scholars, artisans, farmers, writers, students, and professionals from Tamil Nadu.
Subsequent editions expanded in scale and depth.
In 2023, technology was used extensively to overcome language barriers.
The third edition focused on Indian knowledge systems, with wider participation in academic and cultural activities.
Thousands of people have participated in the initiative so far.
Fourth Edition and ‘Tamil Karkalam’ Theme
PM Modi noted that the fourth edition of the Kashi Tamil Sangamam began on December 2, 2025.
The theme, ‘Tamil Karkalam – Learn Tamil’, encouraged people in Kashi and nearby regions to learn the Tamil language.
Teachers from Tamil Nadu participated, making it a memorable experience for students in Kashi.
Cultural Expeditions and Youth Participation
The Prime Minister also highlighted the Sage Agasthya Vehicle Expedition (SAVE), which travelled from Tenkasi to Kashi.
Several social initiatives, including health and digital literacy camps, were organised along the route.
He expressed happiness over the strong participation of young people, saying it reflects the passion of India’s youth to connect with their cultural roots.
Special Trains and Warm Hospitality
PM Modi mentioned that Indian Railways operated special trains to transport participants from Tamil Nadu to Uttar Pradesh.
He also praised the people of Kashi and Uttar Pradesh for their warm hospitality towards Tamil guests.
Strengthening National Unity
The Prime Minister said that the Kashi Tamil Sangamam has delivered meaningful outcomes by strengthening cultural understanding and people-to-people exchanges.
He added that such platforms will be made more vibrant in the future.
Extending greetings for Pongal, Sankranti, Uttarayan, and Magh Bihu, PM Modi said these festivals promote harmony and unity across the nation.
