The 78th Army Day celebrations were held in Jaipur, Rajasthan, on Thursday with great enthusiasm. This year’s event was historic, as the parade was held outside the cantonment area for the first time.
Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan and Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi attended the celebrations. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh was also present at the event.
Meanwhile, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, Governor Haribhau Bagde, and BJP Rajasthan President Madan Rathore joined other dignitaries.
Army Day Parade Held at Jagatpura
The parade was conducted at Mahal Road, Jagatpura. As a result, a larger public audience witnessed the event.
Moreover, the location symbolised the Army’s outreach beyond traditional military zones.

Advanced Weapon Systems on Display
The parade showcased the Indian Army’s growing combat strength.
Notably, the BrahMos cruise missile was displayed. It can strike targets up to 800 kilometres away.
Additionally, the Pinaka multi-barrel rocket launcher featured long-range guided rockets with a 120-kilometre range.
The BM-21 Grad and SMERCH rocket systems were also showcased.
Furthermore, artillery platforms such as the ATAGS and M777 ultra-light howitzer were displayed. These systems reflect India’s modern artillery capabilities.
Focus on Air Defence Capabilities
To highlight air defence strength, the indigenous Akashteer system was presented.
Importantly, the system proved its effectiveness during Operation Sindoor.
During the operation, it successfully neutralised multiple enemy drones. Consequently, the system has gained global attention as a combat-proven platform.
First Public Appearance of Bhairav Battalion
The parade also marked the first public appearance of the Bhairav Battalion.
This unit has been raised as part of the Army’s recent restructuring.
The battalion is positioned between Para Special Forces and regular infantry units.
Therefore, it can respond quickly to modern battlefield threats.
Earlier, a commanding officer of 2 Bhairav Battalion stated that modern warfare is rapidly evolving.
Hence, forces must adapt with advanced technology and new operational thinking.
Significance of Army Day
Army Day is observed every year on January 15.
It commemorates Field Marshal KM Cariappa becoming the first Indian Commander-in-Chief in 1949.
Overall, the 78th Army Day celebrations highlighted India’s military strength, modernization, and readiness for future challenges.
