The Delhi car blast investigation has now been officially transferred to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) announced the move on Tuesday, a day after the deadly explosion near Red Fort Metro Station killed eight people and injured several others.
Officials said the step was taken to ensure a deeper and faster investigation. The NIA will examine the explosives used, trace their origin, and explore possible terror links.
Terror Angle Under NIA’s Lens
The MHA confirmed that a terror angle is under active scrutiny. Earlier, experts from the National Security Guard (NSG) and the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) gathered critical samples from the burnt vehicle and nearby debris.
Now, NIA specialists are retesting these materials to determine whether high-grade explosives were used.
Furthermore, intelligence agencies are collaborating closely to identify individuals or groups involved in the attack.
Amit Shah Holds Emergency Security Meetings
Union Home Minister Amit Shah conducted two high-level security meetings on Tuesday. The first was held at his residence, where he met Home Secretary Govind Mohan, IB Chief Tapan Deka, NIA Director General Sadanand Vasant Date, and Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golchha.
Jammu and Kashmir DGP Nalin Prabhat joined the meeting virtually.
Later in the evening, Amit Shah convened another meeting at Kartavya Bhawan, where he emphasized inter-agency coordination and rapid intelligence sharing to prevent future attacks.
Forensic Teams Revisit Red Fort Blast Site
Early Tuesday morning, NIA and FSL teams returned to the Red Fort blast site to gather additional forensic evidence. They collected more chemical residue samples and metal fragments to determine the composition of the explosive device.
Officials confirmed that the NIA will soon register an FIR and take full custody of all evidence from the Delhi Police.
Meanwhile, security around the Red Fort area remains tight, and checkpoints have been reinforced.
Link Between Delhi and Faridabad Explosives Under Review
Investigators are also probing a possible connection between the Delhi car blast and the Faridabad explosives seizure.
Recently, authorities in Faridabad recovered a large quantity of detonators and explosive materials. The NIA believes this could be part of a wider terror network, connecting multiple locations across North India.
Therefore, teams are coordinating with Haryana Police to track the supply chain of the materials.
Centre Calls for Unified Security Action
The MHA stated that transferring the Delhi car blast investigation to the NIA will help streamline coordination between state and central security agencies.
As a result, surveillance in Delhi and surrounding regions has been increased. Moreover, local police have been ordered to remain on high alert.
The Centre reaffirmed that every possible lead will be pursued to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Conclusion
The Delhi car blast investigation continues at full pace, with multiple agencies working together under the NIA’s leadership.
Authorities are confident that the expanded probe will soon reveal who planned the attack and how such a deadly explosion occurred in the heart of the capital.
