Munich (Germany) | February 16, 2026: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and expanding cooperation across key sectors.
According to an official statement released by the Canadian government, the ministers also discussed diversifying India-Canada trade to support long-term economic resilience and stability.
Fifth Meeting Since September 2025
The statement noted that this was the fifth meeting between Jaishankar and Anand since September 2025. It reflects growing momentum in the India-Canada relationship, which is built on more than 75 years of diplomatic relations and strong people-to-people connections.

Progress on Joint Road Map Highlighted
Both sides highlighted the progress made on the joint road map for Canada-India relations, announced in October 2025.

Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand highlighted India’s importance for Canada. She described India as one of the world’s fastest-growing and most dynamic economies.
The statement also noted that both ministers discussed shared technological benefits and partnership opportunities for businesses, industries, and workers in both countries.

Meeting Ahead of Canadian PM Mark Carney’s India Visit
The meeting comes at a time when Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is expected to travel to India soon.
Earlier, Indian High Commissioner to Canada Dinesh Patnaik said bilateral ties are doing well despite recent challenges. He also expressed optimism about trade negotiations.
CEPA Talks Expected to Resume Soon
Patnaik also mentioned that negotiations for the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) are underway. The talks are expected to resume by late February or early March, according to reports.
