Ahmedabad (Gujarat), February 19 :
After India’s 17-run win over the Netherlands in their final group-stage match of the ICC T20 World Cup, Indian all-rounder Shivam Dube said the team is not discussing any issue regarding handling off-spin bowling.
Dube played a match-winning role with a blazing 66 off 31 balls and also picked up two wickets, earning the Player of the Match award at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Dube dismissed the idea of an off-spin problem.
“There is no talk because there are sometimes when batsmen cannot hit some balls. It is just about that one shot and when it comes, there would be no talks about off spin in coming matches,” Dube said.
India Improves Against Spin in Netherlands Match
India has faced some difficulty against spin earlier in the tournament. Against the USA and Namibia, India lost wickets regularly and scored at a slower rate against spin.
However, in the match against the Netherlands, India scored 70 runs in eight overs of spin and lost only two wickets, showing their best performance against spin so far.
Dutch off-spinner Aryan Dutt impressed with figures of 2/19 in four overs, keeping the scoring under control.
Dube and Hardik Pandya Build Crucial Partnership
India struggled early and reached 110/4 in the 14th over. Dube then accelerated the innings and added a valuable partnership with Hardik Pandya.
The duo stitched a 76-run stand, which helped India finish strong at 193/5.
Dube said there is no competition between him and Hardik and added that their left-right combination makes it harder for the opposition to plan.
Dube’s Strong World Cup Form Continues
In four matches so far, Dube has scored 116 runs at a strike rate of over 178, including a fifty. He has also taken three wickets in two innings.
India Defend 193, Restrict Netherlands to 176/7
Despite strong performances from the Netherlands batters, India’s bowlers controlled the chase. Varun Chakravarthy and Dube played key roles as India restricted the Netherlands to 176/7, sealing a 17-run victory.
