Ahmedabad, February 23:
South Africa batter David Miller praised his team’s disciplined approach after a dominant 76-run victory over India national cricket team in the Super 8 match of the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
Speaking after the match, Miller said that although India possesses an incredible squad, success against strong teams comes from keeping strategies simple and executing plans under pressure.
He stated that South Africa focused on staying composed, performing individual roles effectively, and maintaining consistency throughout the game.
The defeat ended India’s impressive winning streak in ICC white-ball tournaments, marking their first loss in 18 matches since the 2023 World Cup final defeat against Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
South Africa’s bowling attack played a crucial role in restricting India’s powerful batting line-up. Fast bowler Lungi Ngidi delivered an economical spell, conceding just 15 runs in four overs, while spinner Keshav Maharaj turned the game with a decisive over that claimed three wickets, including Hardik Pandya, Rinku Singh and Arshdeep Singh.
Miller praised the bowlers for adapting their variations and maintaining control despite facing multiple left-handed batters in the Indian lineup.
Earlier, South Africa posted a competitive total of 187 for 7 in 20 overs, powered by Miller’s 63-run knock and a crucial 45 from Dewald Brevis. Tristan Stubbs also contributed with an unbeaten 44 runs.
For India, Jasprit Bumrah picked up three wickets, while Arshdeep Singh, Varun Chakaravarthy and Shivam Dube chipped in with wickets.
Chasing 188, India struggled against South Africa’s disciplined bowling attack and were bowled out for 111 in 18.5 overs. Shivam Dube was the top scorer with 42 runs.
South African captain Aiden Markram, along with Marco Jansen, Maharaj and Corbin Bosch, delivered match-winning performances with the ball to secure a comprehensive victory.
