Tehran, March 11: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that it launched the 37th wave of missile attacks against Israel under Operation True Promise 4 late Tuesday night. The IRGC said the operation targeted several strategic and military locations linked to Israel and the United States.
According to the IRGC statement, the latest attack lasted more than three hours and involved continuous and multi-layered missile strikes. Officials claimed they used some of the heaviest ballistic missiles during this phase of the operation.
Strategic Targets Hit in Multiple Locations
The IRGC said the missiles targeted locations in Erbil in Iraqi Kurdistan, the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet base in Bahrain, and military centres in Be’er Ya’akov and Tel Aviv in Israel.
Iran reportedly used advanced missiles such as Kheibar Shekan, Qadr, and Khorramshahr during the attacks. These missiles are part of Iran’s long-range ballistic missile arsenal.
The attack forms part of Operation True Promise 4, which Iran launched after the United States and Israel carried out strikes on Iranian targets.
Israel Claims Most Missiles Intercepted
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said Iran launched around 300 ballistic missiles toward Israel during the escalation. According to the Israeli military, nearly half of these missiles carried cluster bomb warheads.
Israeli defense systems intercepted most of the incoming missiles. However, one missile carrying a large warhead exploded in an open area near Beit Shemesh, close to Jerusalem. Authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported in the incident.
Concerns Over Use of Cluster Munitions
Cluster bomb warheads release multiple small explosive sub-munitions over a wide area. These weapons can spread explosives across a radius of up to 10 kilometres.
The 2008 Convention on Cluster Munitions bans the use of these weapons. However, Iran, Israel, and the United States are not signatories to the treaty.
Rising Casualties in the Conflict
Since the start of the latest escalation, Iran has launched hundreds of missiles and drones across the region. Israeli health authorities reported that Iranian attacks have killed 12 people and injured more than 2,000 others in Israel.
The ongoing conflict has significantly raised tensions in the Middle East.
Israel Conducts Airstrikes in Lebanon
Meanwhile, the Israel Defense Forces confirmed that it carried out additional airstrikes in Lebanon targeting assets of the Hezbollah-affiliated Al-Qard Al-Hassan Association. Israeli officials said the organization finances Hezbollah’s weapons purchases and militant salaries.
The Israeli military also announced the killing of Hassan Salameh, the commander of Hezbollah’s Nassar Unit, in a precise airstrike conducted by the Israeli Air Force in the Jwaya area of Lebanon.
Officials said Salameh had held several key roles within Hezbollah and played an important role in its military operations.
Growing Regional Tensions
The exchange of attacks between Iran, Israel, and allied forces has intensified the security situation in the Middle East. Military operations continue across several fronts, raising concerns about a broader regional conflict.
