Tehran, April 3 – A series of US-Israeli strikes on the B1 Bridge in Karaj, Iran, resulted in at least eight civilian deaths and 95 injuries. The attack targeted the vital infrastructure, causing significant casualties in the surrounding area.
Details of the Attack
Among the victims were Iranian travelers and local residents near the bridge. Many of those killed were families spending time outdoors for Nature Day, a public holiday in Iran.
Iran’s Response
Following the strike, President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasized that Iran would continue defending itself against the US and Israeli aggressors. He stated that Iran would utilize all available resources to protect its sovereignty. The attack comes as the conflict with the US intensifies.
International Reactions
President Pezeshkian spoke with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, thanking Azerbaijan for its support. The two leaders also discussed regional security and Iran’s ongoing negotiations with the US. Despite the attacks, Pezeshkian assured that Tehran was committed to peace talks.
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi discussed the security of the Strait of Hormuz with Filipino officials. He stressed that Iran’s actions to prevent hostile vessels from passing through the waterway were in line with international law.
The Toll of the Conflict
Reports indicate that more than 2,000 people have been killed across Iran since the conflict began. Many of the casualties are women and children. The ongoing violence has caused widespread destruction of vital infrastructure, including schools and hospitals.
Calls for Peace
The Filipino Foreign Minister offered condolences for the loss of life in Iran, calling for an immediate end to the conflict. Both Iran and Azerbaijan hope for a peaceful resolution to the crisis.
