Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], April 3:
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain Ishan Kishan praised openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma after their impressive 82-run opening partnership guided SRH to a dominant win over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their Indian Premier League (IPL) match. Kishan highlighted how the 80-odd runs in the power play made the chase much easier for the team.
Following a loss to defending champions Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), SRH bounced back with confidence. The team posted a total of 226/8, built on the solid opening stand and a half-century from Heinrich Klaasen. Despite valiant contributions from Angkrish Raghuvanshi (52), Finn Allen, and Rinku Singh, KKR fell short and were restricted to 161 in 16 overs.
Kishan’s Praise for Openers and Team Performance
Kishan lauded the efforts of the openers, stating, “Travis Head and Abhishek played beautiful knocks. Getting those 80 runs in the powerplay made the game easy for us.” He explained that the early runs gave other batters the time to settle in and adapt to the pitch. He added, “I give credit to both batters and Klaasen for taking it to the end, and Nitish played a lovely knock. Overall, it was a team effort.”
Impressive Bowling Performance by SRH
Kishan also singled out Harsh Dubey (1/17) for his critical wicket-taking performance and praised Shivang for his excellent bowling, especially in the second innings. “He bowled exceptionally well,” Kishan said, acknowledging Shivang’s hard work and composure, particularly against Rinku Singh.
Fielding Improvements Needed for SRH
Despite the victory, Kishan emphasized the need to improve fielding. “We cannot be giving 20-odd runs in each game,” he stated. He added that in T20 cricket, such small margins could make a big difference. “We will work on it as a team,” he concluded.
