Dhaka (Bangladesh), April 4, 2026:
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has sought to strengthen cricket ties with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The board aims to explore new areas of cooperation between Bangladesh and India.
BCB Initiates Communication
Nazmul Abedin Fahim, Director of Cricket Operations at BCB, confirmed the development. He said the board recently sent a formal communication to the BCCI. He also explained that such exchanges form part of regular coordination between cricket boards.
In the letter, BCB highlighted the upcoming bilateral series. The Indian men’s team will tour Bangladesh in September. Meanwhile, Bangladesh’s women’s team will visit India. Additionally, the board proposed exploring further collaboration opportunities.
Background of Recent Tensions
However, relations faced strain earlier. A controversy emerged during the Indian Premier League 2026. Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman signed with Kolkata Knight Riders but could not participate due to political objections. As a result, tensions rose between the two cricket boards.
Relations Show Signs of Improvement
Since then, ties have started improving. The current government in Bangladesh has taken steps to strengthen relations with India. Consequently, cooperation in sports has also gained momentum.
Diplomatic Engagement Continues
Furthermore, Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman will visit India on April 7 and 8. This visit is expected to boost bilateral ties. It may also support stronger cricket cooperation between the two nations.
Overall, the BCB’s outreach signals a positive shift. Both countries now appear ready to rebuild and expand cricket relations through structured collaboration.
