Budapest, April 8, 2026:
US Vice President JD Vance on Wednesday called the ongoing ceasefire between the United States and Iran “fragile.” He also urged Iran to act in good faith to secure a long-term peace deal.
US Pushes for Immediate Cooperation
While speaking in Budapest, Vance emphasized that diplomacy offers the best path forward.
He clearly stated that the US can reach an agreement if Iran cooperates sincerely. Moreover, he highlighted that both nations must act responsibly to maintain stability.
“If the Iranians work with us in good faith, we can make an agreement,” Vance said.
Strong Warning from US Leadership
At the same time, Vance warned Iran about the US stance. He stressed that President Donald Trump wants quick results and will not tolerate delays.
Therefore, he made it clear that:
- The US expects fast progress
- The administration shows limited patience
- Iran must respond seriously
He added that Trump is “not one to mess around,” reinforcing the urgency of the situation.
Ceasefire Depends on Strait of Hormuz
Meanwhile, the US announced a 14-day ceasefire with specific conditions.
Iran must ensure the safe and immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. As a result, global oil supply routes can remain stable, and economic pressure can ease.
Focus on Long-Term Peace Deal
Additionally, Vance revealed that Trump has directly instructed officials to prioritize negotiations.
The US now aims to:
- Secure a long-term peace agreement
- Reduce tensions in the Middle East
- Avoid further military escalation
Therefore, officials continue to push for diplomatic progress.
Iran Proposal Under Discussion
At present, both countries are reviewing Iran’s 10-point proposal. The US considers this plan a workable base for negotiations.
Meanwhile, both sides continue to follow the temporary ceasefire.
Overall, the ceasefire offers a crucial opportunity for peace. However, its success depends on mutual trust and cooperation. If both nations act in good faith, they can turn this fragile truce into a lasting agreement.
