Ahmedabad (Gujarat), April 18, 2026: Gujarat Titans pacer Kagiso Rabada emphasised that securing victories should take precedence over net run rate (NRR) after GT defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by five wickets in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026.
Gill and Rabada Shine in GT’s Third Straight Win
The win was powered by skipper Shubman Gill, who delivered a crucial knock of 86 runs, while Rabada starred with the ball, picking up 3/29 in his four overs. This marks GT’s third consecutive victory in the tournament, pushing them to fourth place on the points table.
NRR Not a Priority, Says Rabada
Despite their winning streak, Gujarat Titans’ net run rate remains only slightly above zero. In contrast, teams like Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru currently enjoy significantly higher NRRs, both exceeding +1.
Speaking after the match, Rabada clarified the team’s approach:
“The most important thing as a team is to prioritise the win first. And the net run rate, it will come.”
He pointed out that with several matches still remaining in the league stage, there is ample opportunity to improve NRR organically through consistent performances.
Focus on Momentum and Game Awareness
Rabada stressed that chasing NRR should not disrupt the team’s natural gameplay. Instead, players should focus on match situations and maintain momentum across games.
“You don’t want to go into a game wanting to get your net run rate higher. It’s more about momentum and how a team is playing.”
He also highlighted the importance of trusting players’ instincts, especially the batting unit, and allowing them to execute their roles without unnecessary pressure.
Next Clash Against Mumbai Indians
Gujarat Titans will next face Mumbai Indians at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Monday, where they will aim to extend their winning streak.
