BJP Questions Congress on Lack of Evidence
Dehradun (Uttarakhand), December 24:
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday strongly criticised the Congress for repeatedly raising claims of a “VIP” link in the Ankita murder case without presenting any evidence.
BJP State President and Rajya Sabha MP Mahendra Bhatt said the Congress failed to prove its allegations at the right time. He stated that if the party had credible information, it should have submitted it before the court.
Police Sought Information, Says BJP
Bhatt recalled that during the investigation, the Director General of Police publicly appealed for information related to any alleged “VIP.” However, no individual came forward with proof, he said.
He accused the Congress of spreading conspiracy theories and politicising a sensitive issue. According to Bhatt, such actions disrespect the memory of the deceased.
Viral Audio Controversy Explained
Referring to a viral audio clip, Bhatt said authorities have already filed a police complaint. The complaint claims the audio is manipulated and unauthenticated.
He added that the woman linked to the audio has a controversial background and alleged political motives. Despite this, the Congress continues to use the clip for political advantage, he said.
Government Took Swift Action
Bhatt highlighted that the accused in the Ankita murder case have not received bail so far. He said the government appointed advocates at the family’s request and fulfilled all their demands.
Strong legal arguments led to life imprisonment for the accused, Bhatt added.
Congress Reviving Issue Ahead of Elections
The BJP leader accused the Congress of reviving the “VIP” narrative ahead of elections to divert attention from its failures. He challenged the party to name the alleged VIP and explain why it never informed the court.
He also claimed that individuals cited by Congress leaders often change their statements after disputes and compromises.
BJP Defends CM Dhami’s Role
Bhatt said Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami took suo motu cognisance of the case. The police arrested the accused within 24 hours, he added.
He warned that earlier attempts by Congress to politicise the case had failed and would fail again.
Allegations of AI-Generated Audio
On the viral audio, Bhatt said the person whose voice appears in the clip denied making the statement. The person has alleged that someone used AI technology to fabricate the audio.
A forensic examination of the mobile phone has been requested to reveal the truth.
BJP Demands Public Apology
Bhatt accused Congress leaders of unethical politics and irresponsible statements. He demanded a public apology for making allegations without verifying facts.
