Sriharikota (Andhra Pradesh), January 12:
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will conduct India’s first space launch of 2026 today. The agency will launch the PSLV-C62 mission from the First Launch Pad (FLP) at Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC SHAR), Sriharikota.
According to ISRO, the launch is scheduled for 10:17 AM IST. The mission will place an Earth Observation Satellite, Anvesha (EOS-N1), into a polar sun-synchronous orbit.
64th PSLV Mission
Meanwhile, Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium Director BR Guruprasad highlighted the importance of the launch. He said this mission marks the 64th flight of the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle.
“PSLV is one of the most reliable launch vehicles in the world. It has successfully launched Chandrayaan-1, Mangalyaan, and Aditya-L1,” Guruprasad said.
Additionally, he explained that the satellite will orbit a few hundred kilometres above Earth. The satellite will support Earth observation and monitoring tasks.
Official ISRO Confirmation
Earlier, ISRO confirmed the schedule on X.
“The launch of PSLV-C62 mission is scheduled on 12 January 2026 at 10:17 hrs IST from First Launch Pad (FLP), SDSC SHAR, Sriharikota,” the space agency stated.
Purpose of Anvesha (EOS-N1)
The Anvesha (EOS-N1) satellite will strengthen India’s remote sensing capabilities. It will help in environmental monitoring, land observation, and data analysis.
Recent ISRO Achievement
Previously, on December 24, ISRO launched the BlueBird Block-2 communication satellite for AST SpaceMobile (USA) using the LVM3 rocket. Notably, this mission carried the heaviest payload placed into Low Earth Orbit by LVM3.
The satellite aims to provide direct high-speed cellular broadband connectivity to smartphones worldwide.
Conclusion
Overall, the PSLV-C62 launch highlights ISRO’s consistent progress. It also reinforces India’s position as a trusted global space power.
