Odisha Police intensified their crackdown on illegal cattle transportation across the eastern region of the state. Over the last four to five months, police registered more than 100 cases and rescued over 1,000 cattle.
Coordinated Action Across Eastern Range
Odisha Police carried out coordinated operations in all three districts under the Eastern Range. The police focused on border areas that remain vulnerable due to porous entry points.
Pinak Mishra, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Eastern Range, spoke to the media in Balasore. He said police issued strict instructions to all district superintendents. Officers increased surveillance and enforcement in sensitive locations.
“Our teams acted firmly against illegal cattle transportation and smuggling. We registered more than 100 cases and rescued over a thousand cattle,” Mishra said.
Police teams continue investigations and follow-up action in all cases.
Enhanced Monitoring in Border Districts
Police officials confirmed continuous monitoring in Balasore and nearby districts. Special teams now patrol border areas regularly. Authorities aim to prevent the revival of organised cattle smuggling networks.
Raids Lead to ₹50 Crore Seizure
Gokula Nanda Mallik, Odisha’s Fisheries and Livestock Minister, said authorities conducted raids in five districts. The action followed reports of an organised cattle smuggling racket.
“Officials arrested several people and seized property and cash worth over ₹50 crore,” the minister said.
He warned smugglers of strict consequences and urged them to stop illegal activities immediately.
Government Reinforces Cow Protection Measures
The minister reiterated the state government’s commitment to cow protection under the leadership of Mohan Charan Majhi.
He highlighted the Mukhyamantri Kamdhenu Yojna, which supports farmers and safeguards cattle.

- Authorities distributed 12,000–15,000 high-yielding cows
- The scheme promotes income generation and rural employment
