Guwahati, March 11: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Assam on March 13 and 14. During the visit, he will launch several development projects and distribute land pattas to the tea garden community. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the visit during a press conference in Guwahati.
The Prime Minister will dedicate development projects worth ₹10,000 crore to the nation. He will also address public gatherings in Kokrajhar, Guwahati, and Silchar.
Land Rights for Tea Garden Community
The distribution of land pattas will be the highlight of the visit. The tea garden community has lived in Assam for almost 200 years. However, many families still do not have official land ownership.
PM Modi will hand over the first land rights certificate to a tea garden worker. After this, the state government will start a large-scale program to provide land ownership to tea garden families across Assam.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said this step will give security and recognition to thousands of workers who have contributed to the tea industry for generations.
Projects Worth ₹10,000 Crore
During the visit, the Prime Minister will inaugurate several important projects. He will dedicate the 150 MW Kopili Hydro Power Project to the nation. The Assam government recently completed this project.
PM Modi will also release an installment of the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme from Guwahati. The scheme provides financial support to farmers across India.
Silchar–Shillong–Guwahati Express Highway
On March 14 at 11 AM, the Prime Minister will visit Silchar. He will lay the foundation stone of the Silchar–Shillong–Guwahati Express Highway.
The government will build this highway at a cost of ₹22,000 crore. The project will improve connectivity between major cities in Northeast India. It will also support trade, tourism, and economic growth in the region.
Public Meetings in Three Cities
PM Modi will address three public meetings during his Assam visit. The meetings will take place in Kokrajhar, Guwahati, and Silchar. Large crowds are expected at these events.
Amit Shah to Visit Assam on March 15
Union Home Minister Amit Shah will also visit Assam on March 15. He will inaugurate the Pragjyotishpur Medical College in Guwahati.
After the inauguration, he will attend the BJP Yuva Sankalp Samavesh at the Veterinary College Field in Khanapara. Around one lakh BJP youth workers are expected to participate in the event.
Political Importance
The visits of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah hold political significance. The BJP government in Assam, led by Himanta Biswa Sarma, aims to win a third consecutive term in the 2026 Assembly elections.
The government plans to highlight development projects and welfare programs during these visits.
