Guwahati, Assam – April 2:
In a powerful address ahead of the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the significant development under the BJP government in the state, while targeting Congress and its leadership.
PM Modi’s Confidence in BJP’s Victory
At a rally in Gogamukh, Prime Minister Modi expressed confidence that the BJP-NDA alliance would secure a third consecutive term in Assam, calling it a “hattrick” of victory. He also took a swipe at Congress and its leadership, saying the upcoming elections would mark a “century of defeats” for Congress’s self-proclaimed prince (Rahul Gandhi).
“Under the leadership of Sarbananda Sonowal and Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam has seen a new era of service and good governance,” said PM Modi, adding that Assam is on track to become a developed state under the BJP government.
Promises for Assam’s Future
PM Modi promised major initiatives to ensure Assam’s development, including implementing the Uniform Civil Code to protect the dignity and safety of women. He also emphasized the importance of safeguarding Assam’s tribal society and Sixth Schedule areas.
“These announcements will protect Assam’s identity and traditions,” the Prime Minister stated.
Allegations Against Congress
PM Modi also attacked Congress, accusing the party of corruption and neglecting Assam’s interests. He highlighted that Congress had compromised Assam’s identity for political gain and integrated illegal infiltrators into the state.
“The Congress has played with Assam’s identity and security. It has neglected Assam for power,” he said, emphasizing the BJP’s commitment to addressing key challenges like floods and land erosion, with hundreds of crores allocated for flood protection.
Priyanka Gandhi’s Critique of the BJP Government
Meanwhile, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Congress leader, delivered a critique of the BJP-led government at a rally in Nazira, calling it a “government of double-slavery.” She urged the people of Assam to vote for a Congress-led government that would serve their interests honestly.
“They work for themselves, not for you. We need a government that strengthens your culture and civilization,” Priyanka Gandhi said, taking aim at both PM Modi and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
She also criticized the BJP’s double-engine government promise, calling it a failure and accusing PM Modi of becoming a “slave to America” and Sarma of being his “slave.”
