Chennai (Tamil Nadu), April 4, 2026:
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday denied any confusion over candidate selection in Tamil Nadu. Party spokesperson Narayanan Thirupathy described the process as structured and transparent. At the same time, he criticized Chief Minister M. K. Stalin and accused him of hiding governance failures.
BJP Explains Candidate Selection Process
Speaking in Chennai, Thirupathy explained that the party follows a defined system. According to him, the Central Election Committee takes the final call on candidates. State leaders suggest names, but the committee reviews and approves them. This approach ensures coordination and clarity. He also mentioned that the announcement will happen soon.
BJP Responds to Stalin’s Remarks
Responding to Stalin’s statement, Thirupathy dismissed the idea of a contest between Tamil Nadu and Delhi. He called the remark misleading and politically motivated. In his view, such statements distract voters from real concerns. Instead of addressing issues, the ruling party tries to shift the narrative.
Allegations on Governance Issues
Highlighting governance concerns, the BJP leader pointed to law and order problems in the state. He referred to rising crime rates in recent years. Incidents involving women and children were also mentioned. In addition, he alleged that the government fails to take strong action. The repeated focus on language issues, he said, diverts attention from these challenges.
Elections Part of India’s Democratic System
Emphasizing national unity, Thirupathy stated that elections in Tamil Nadu are part of India’s democratic framework. He clarified that there is no divide between the state and the Centre. Both function within the same constitutional system, he added. Therefore, presenting the election as a conflict is incorrect.
Tamil Nadu Election Schedule
As per the announced schedule, Tamil Nadu will vote in a single phase on April 23, 2026. Counting will take place on May 4. The nomination process will close on April 6, followed by scrutiny on April 7. Candidates will have time to withdraw until April 9.
