Ahmedabad, April 21: Tilak Varma delivered a sensational performance, scoring his maiden century in the Indian Premier League, guiding Mumbai Indians to a commanding 99-run victory over Gujarat Titans in IPL 2026.
The young batter played a match-winning knock of 101 off just 45 balls*, earning the Player of the Match award. His innings not only marked his first IPL hundred but also made him the youngest centurion for Mumbai Indians at 23 years and 163 days.
Speaking after the match, Varma said, “First 100 will always be special. Every game is important for us now, and I wanted to spend time in the middle and build my innings.”
Tilak Varma also equalled the record of Sanath Jayasuriya for the fastest century by a Mumbai Indians player. Other notable names on the list include Cameron Green and Suryakumar Yadav.
He revealed that after a cautious start, he accelerated based on match conditions. “I focused on basics and stability. I have the shots, but under pressure, it’s about backing your skills,” he added.
Varma also credited his partnership with Naman Dhir, whose aggressive approach helped stabilize the innings and build momentum.
