Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, August 10: Police have registered an FIR against the drivers of 28 vehicles allegedly involved in the Umar Ahmed convoy, which was travelling from Lucknow to Prayagraj. The case relates to an alleged incident at the Nawabganj Toll Plaza, where the vehicles reportedly crossed the toll barrier without paying the required fee and allegedly damaged the toll barrier.
According to police, the incident involving the Umar Ahmed convoy took place at approximately 3:50 AM at booth number 3 of Nawabganj Toll Plaza. The vehicles were reportedly travelling together when they allegedly passed through the toll plaza without making the prescribed toll payment.
The vehicles allegedly damaged the toll barrier while crossing the plaza. Toll plaza employees reportedly attempted to stop the vehicles and asked the drivers to pay the applicable toll charges. However, the complaint alleges that the drivers refused to comply and allegedly misbehaved with the toll plaza staff.
FIR Registered Against Drivers of 28 Vehicles
The FIR related to the Umar Ahmed convoy was registered following a complaint submitted by Jaiprakash Yadav, Assistant Manager of Nawabganj Toll Plaza. According to the complaint, the drivers allegedly refused to pay the toll fee and broke the barrier while moving through the plaza.
The complaint further alleges that some drivers abused toll plaza employees when they attempted to intervene. It also contains serious allegations that some drivers tried to move their vehicles towards the toll staff, forcing employees to move away to protect themselves.
Police have now begun investigating the allegations surrounding the Umar Ahmed convoy. Officials are also verifying the identities and involvement of the vehicles named in connection with the incident.

More recently, on August 8, the Allahabad High Court granted parole to jailed sons of the late mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed so that they could attend the funeral of their younger brother Abaan Ahmed under police custody and protection.
According to Advocate Syed Safdar Ali Kazmi, an application had been filed seeking permission for Ali Ahmed and Mohammad Umar to attend their younger brother’s funeral in Allahabad under police security.
The court directed the Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) to appoint a senior police officer to ensure their security and maintain surveillance during the period.
Court Grants Parole to Mohd Umar and Ali Ahmed
A bench comprising Justices Ajay Bhanot and Divesh Chandra Samant granted parole to Mohd Umar and Ali Ahmad in connection with the funeral arrangements.
The court also permitted the two to meet their younger sibling Ehzam Ahmad and paternal aunt Parveen Qureshi at a location to be decided by the state authorities.
The parole was granted with police custody and security arrangements in place. Authorities were directed to ensure proper surveillance during the permitted period.
The court proceedings and the latest allegations involving the Umar Ahmed convoy have brought renewed attention to the family and their ongoing legal matters.
